Knights Revival Update- 3/11/12

The Knights Revival group had another meeting on March 10th. For more information, view the post on facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/joe-angelo/knights-revival-update-31112/10150667960684443

Knights Revival

Many of you have probably heard about this, but it’s possible that some of you haven’t yet. Joe Angelo (a percussionist at WIU who’s from Geneseo) is working on starting the Knights as a new drum corps in the Quad Cities/Geneseo area. He’s working with some Knights alums, as well as a few WIU Marching Band alums who are in the region.

They’re still in the planning/organizational phase, but it looks like they’re really doing it right…making sure they have everything in order before jumping into anything.

The newest status update can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/notes/joe-angelo/knights-revival-update-21212/10150602965514443, so stop by and check it out. Eventually there’ll be a specific facebook page for it, but for now, I’ll just make sure to post links to the information.

I’m sure they’d welcome any support that any of you would be willing/able to give. If you’d like to help out in any way, please contact Joe Angelo at Joe@knightscorps.org or 309-230-5920.

Bob Snow, 1963-2011

Bob SnowPosted by Steve Scherer Today on Facebook:
“Attention Geneseo Knights – our good friend Bob Snow passed away today, after a courageous battle with cancer that had spread throughout his body. Bob marched during the late 70’s and early 80’s contributing GREATLY to the horn line. His sense of humor cannot be compared to anyone’s. I don’t know anything about visitation or funeral arrangements, but that will be coming soon enough. His dad passed away a couple of months ago. Let’s all keep his Mom, Gloria, Son Carl, and his siblings in our prayers. But to make you smile, remember, Bob is now with Bill Lehman.”

Funeral Home page

A followup by John Vandewoestyne details arrangements:
“Memorial services celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, January 5, 2012 at First Congregational Church, Geneseo. Rev. Bruce Bergthold will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo. Visitation for Robert will be from 10:00 – 11:00 am prior to services at the church. Per his request cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials be directed to an Educational Fund for his son Sam.”

Bob Snow

Bob Snow, a Knights Contra player, has been diagnosed with cancer and is apparently not doing well. Also, his father passed away last night, so Bob and his family are in a very difficult situation. Gregg Neuleib has been posting updates to the Geneseo Knights Facebook Group.

The most recent post:

Okay, I talked with Bob’s Mom this morning and found out that Bob’s father passed away last night. She updated me on Bob and said that his cancer has spread to his bones, spine, leg, back. His is taking some treatment to make him more comfortable but she said they can’t really do much. He is back home at ********** (visit the facebook group for the mailing address). She mentioned that he could really “use some encouragement”. I don’t think he’s on FB, anybody know? Cards or letters might be good. Some of you might not know that Bob has a son, Sam, who is about 12 years old I think.

Please keep Bob and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Long time, no see

Hi everyone. I know it’s been a while since I’ve done anything with the site…sorry about that. I wanted to let you all know a few things.

  1. I’m changing the way the email list is handled. At this point, the version of the list that had been on this site has become to unwieldy for me to be able to update on any regular basis. Because of this issue, I have fallen way behind on updating contact information and have decided to change my process. From now on, the email list will be housed in a Google Doc spreadsheet that I can update from anywhere, and much more easily than I can update the list that was here. So, if you follow the link on the Alumni List page, you will be taken to the new/current list. If there are any additions, changes or corrections, please follow the standard process listed below the link.
  2. I’ve received a couple of emails from people who didn’t actually march with the Knights, but I wanted to put them out there so people could read them

    From: Al Courington
“In the winter of 1992, I got drug from Austin Peay to Iowa for a camp with the Quad City Knights. It was my first ever real experience with corps, and one I never forgot. Even though I was not able to march that year, the reasons do not matter anymore, I have NEVER forgot how kind and welcoming the corps was, and how quickly I forged friends there. I am proud to say that I was participant, even if for a a short time, with this corps. It helped shape my future, and I will always remember that time. Thank you!”

    From: O.E. Bellerose
“Back in 1961 I transferred from Pakistan to Bremerhaven, Germany. For a time I bunked with a John Townsend who played bugle or trumpet with the Kewanee Black Knights back in the 1950’s. He played and played tapes of the Corp. All attempts to locate him have failed. You’re my last try. Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.”

If anyone has contact information for John Townsend, please let me know so I can put them in contact with each other.

  3. In case you couldn’t tell, there isn’t going to be a big reunion this year. Originally people thought that we’d shoot for having one every 5 years, but things just didn’t get organized soon enough. Anyone who is interested in organizing or planning another big reunion for 2012 or 2013, please let me know, and I’ll try to get you guys in contact with each other so we can get something started. Thanks.
  4. So, that’s about it for now. I’m still working through all my old Email List updates (I think I’m nearly a year behind on them), so it’ll take me a while, even with the improved workflow. If you have any ideas, suggestions, or whatever regarding the site, please let me know at scott@knightscorps.org.

    Thanks again.

Need info on Knights who also attended Western Illinois University

Hi everyone,
I know that through the years (especially in the ’80s and early ’90s) there were quite a few Knights who also went to Western Illinois University (many of whom were also in WIU’s marching band). I’m trying to get together a list of WIU Knights for something that we may be organizing in the near future.
If you or someone you know went to Western and marched Knights, please shoot me an email at scott@knightscorps.org or use the form on this page: http://www.knightscorps.org/contact-us/.

Thank you for your help.

Mary Jordan

Just received this from Stan Maddox.

Mary Jordan, beloved drum corps mom and mother of corps member John Jordan, passed away Friday, July 30, 2010.

We’ve lost both Ma and Pa Jordan this summer, so please say extra prayers for John, his sisters and their families. There is a special place in heaven for Drum Corps Moms, and you can bet that Ma is there right now cooking a fresh batch of spag for us. Remember, “If you leave hungry it’s your own dang fault!”

We love ya Ma, always have, always will. Rest in peace.

And we’re back…

So, in case you hadn’t noticed, I moved (and redesigned) the Knights website over the last day or two. If you’re viewing this from facebook or twitter, please stop by the new site. If you’re already here, please, take a look around and let me know what you think via my contact form. There’s more that I’m going to work on, but I think this is a good point to ask for feedback. Thanks for your input and support.
